Dubai to Johannesburg to Cape town: Sunday, 21st May 2006

Sleep deficit

On the evening of the 17th I slept about 2 hours in Las Vegas. On the evening of the 18th I slept about 5 hours in New York. On the evening of the 19th I slept a couple of hours on the flight from New York to Dubai. Last night I managed a few hours sleep at Dubai airport on one of their reclining seats. I have not had a lot of sleep over the last 4 nights!

At about 0245 this morning we left the "quiet room" at Dubai International Airport and went to boarding gate 11, flying at 0355 (Dubai time). On flight EK761 I sat on in the friendship seat between Karen and a South African ex-pat, residing in Greek Cyprus. After a visit with Chris and Lorna and lunch with Heidi and Anton, we headed back at 7pm. The flight was the quickest I've been on from Jhb to Cape Town. I got on the plane and woke up at Cape Town!

Adolf picked us up at Cape Town International and gave us a lift home - thanks pal! I then slept until 1430 on the 22nd. After that sleep I didn't sleep for 30 hours...my body-clock is struggling to find its rhythm!

Greater perspective

Jet-lag aside, it was one fine holiday, and I certainly see matters with a greater perspective now, with more points of reference. It's great to see things on TV, and think - I've been there.
