Our vacation in Los Angeles, California

Thursday, 11th May 2006

Early morning walk-about

I couldn't sleep, so at about 1am I went for a drive to check out the night-life of the "City of Angels". I drove up through Hollywood Boulevard. There seem to be a number of clubs at the end of Hollywood Boulevard, west of Highland Street. Some of the clubs only had the doorman outside, but there was one club with a load of people outside waiting to get in. As I drove along suddenly I saw 4 girls sprinting across the road - one of the girls tripped and fell down into the street in my lane. I easily brought my car to a halt and waited for her friend to get her up and walk her across the road. Different town, same s%$t. I made my way back to the Orbit hotel. There is limited parking at the Orbit, so we have to double-park and leave our keys with reception in case the person you have parked in wants to get out before you - something I did not feel entirely comfortable doing. There was a surprising amount of activity at the hotel for 0200 in the morning - people watching television, two of the internet computers busy.

Universal Studios

We headed for Universal Studios. We had bought tickets for $52 each to go here. Our experience was that this is an all-day event. We got there relatively early at about 0930 and only left in the afternoon at about 1700. There are a plethora of experiences.

Photos of the sets used at Universal Studios.

Waterworld was a spectacular live act based on the movie Waterworld. Click here to see our photo archive of Waterworld.

Rodeo Drive, Beverley Hills

Rodeo Drive in Beverley Hills is known for its expensive stores where the "stars" come to do their shopping. We were quite tired after Universal Studios, but knew that if we didn't go see it then we probably never would (ever in our lives!). We did a quick drive-through - click here to access an archive photos I took of Rodeo Drive.

Weather in Los Angeles

Every day we were there was foggy, on some days the fog would lift a bit and it would become quite warm.
