Karen woke up at 0400, I woke up later not feeling 100%, I wasn't sure whether what I was feeling was jet-lag or flu.
We decided to take a walk to Central Park.
Situated on the upper central part of Manhattan, Central Park is the green lung of Manhattan. New York has a high population density, and Central Park provides some much needed space. We were lucky enough to be travelling through it in the Spring. Click here to see pictures of our walk through Central Park.
Click here to see pictures of our visit to the American Museum of Natural history. In the lobby are a few quotes by Theodore Roosevelt, e.g. "This nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased and not impaired in value". When I think of global warming, I doubt whether we meet Theodore's criteria for behaving well.
After leaving the American Museum of Natural History, we saw a movie being filmed, "The Nanny Diaries".
New York's 5th Avenue didn't quite reek of money in the way I thought it would, but it is possible that I worked along the wrong spot! Click here to see photos of 5th Avenue.
After getting lost in Brooklyn for a while, I eventually found my way to the High Street Station which is in Brooklyn next to Brooklyn Bridge. I proceeded to walk across the famous Brooklyn Bridge towards Manhattan. There are all manners of people walking across the bridge. There are people cycling, jogging, skating across the bridge - there's a special lane reserved for them. There are stax of people walking across and taking photos and there are a number sitting on the bridge. If you looking carefully through the wooden slats on which you're walking you can see a long drop through to the water below...I did look through and it took me a while to recover from the subsequent fear that overcame me! However, I did manage to overcome it sufficiently to take a load of photos of Brooklyn Bridge and the views from it - click here to see.
Canal Street is now officially the new filthiest Manhattan subway. It reaked of puke, with one traveller backing off out of the subway the stench was so bad.
A mixture of old-fashioned and alternative. Girl with bright orange hair knitting on the subway!
Karen giving my very sore feet a foot massage.
Because I'd seen it in movies before, I went along to see what Grand Central Terminal looks like in real life. Click here to see photos of Grand Central Terminal. Apparently the most common back-up meeting spot if you lose each other in New York is the information kiosk at Grand Central Terminal.
I popped through the security and into the United Nations building in New York. Click here to see photos of the United Nations Building.
